Friends family and fans come out to honor Pimp C

Please download the latest version at adobe. You ll be glad you did. That s how we first met. Butler was found dead Dec. in his hotel room in Los Angeles. The coroner s office said autopsy and toxicology results are not expected for six to eight weeks. The crowd began gathering outside the Robert A. Bowers Civic Center early. Authorities separated the mourners into two lines surrounded by several police officers. Snipers were positioned atop nearby buildings. to pay their respects but were turned away for sporting Pimp C T shirts. The rejection added to a tough week of news for the longtime fans. It was a bad day in Port Arthur when he died . We lost one of our soldiers Sponslar said. Everything he made just is real. It s the way we drive our cars. It s the way we talk our slang what we sip. A limousine motorcade sent a rumble through the crowd and somber rap stars quickly entered the building. They were followed by a visibly distraught Nancy Byron! Butler s longtime publicist. Chamillionaire called Butler a father figure to a lot of artists. The family was ushered in and Butler s casket followed. The crowd of about went quiet. When the music stopped playing the Rev. I shall not want. The pallbearers walked slowly toward the stage. The trumpets shall sound and the dead in Christ will rise Adolph boomed. The pallbearers laid the coffin simple gray with golden trim in front of the stage. Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord. The theme of redemption came up in most of the eulogies during the minute service. Instead of UGK songs gospel hymns were interspersed between prayers and speeches. The mayor of Port Arthur read a city declaration. He said Butler had changed after his parole from prison in December . I thought groups like UGK don t get nominated he said. But Butler was right. Two days after his death the pair got their first Grammy nomination as a group. She wore a UGK T shirt and looked out on ! the crowd for a while. She said her only son was in heaven no! w. He got there and told them The South is here. Adolph s eulogy was a mix of fun and seriousness. He researched the word pimp and found years of history had changed its meaning. That s changed he said. I discovered pimpin had nothing to do with the girl in the corner. There s a whole lot of us from the ghetto trying to get out. Adolph said God is a redeemer and a person s past isn t important. Pimp C joined my church Nov. He never had the chance to see Dec. Adolph asked the mourners to gather around the closed casket. Everyone descended from the bleachers and crowded the front of the stage. His sons and wife stood behind the casket. Some people bowed their heads others raised their hands. Butler s oldest son cried again and placed his hat over his eyes. Slowly the pallbearers picked up the casket and made the patient trek to his final resting place. Fans slowly filed out most clutching full color programs emblazoned with a photo of Pimp C. They exited the ! civic center with smiles on their faces. I thought it was a blessing from God. It was a homegoing celebration Washington said. She allowed her daughter a big UGK fan to skip school and be a part of history.
